The Medellín Museum of Modern Art (MAMM) is a private non-profit organization established in 1978 by a group of artists and citizens. Its mission is to provide a space for knowledge, learning, and enjoyment through art and culture. The Museum has become a leading institution in the Colombian art scene with a global outreach, and its programming include temporary exhibitions and from the art collection, educational programs, a comprehensive film series, and cultural events that foster new ways of thinking and creativity.

Position overview:
MAMM is seeking a new Chief Curator, who will build upon the Museum’s decade-long process of growth and transformation, contributing to its consolidation as a vital space for the cultural life of Medellín, Colombia, and the region. The ideal candidate will possess a vision, sensitivity, knowledge, and creativity that will enable them to integrate the diverse voices of contemporary art and culture into the life of MAMM, while also addressing the critical issues facing our world today and in the future.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent leadership and team management skills, as well as the ability to adapt to different work environments and take on any responsibility. They will also have outstanding organizational, planning, and execution skills, as well as the willingness and sensitivity to establish relationships and communicate with diverse communities in the artistic and cultural ecosystems.
- 10-15 years of professional and proven experience in artistic and curatorial projects, preferably in cultural institutions (museums, cultural centers, independent spaces, etc.)
- Graduate degree in art history, curatorial studies, aesthetics, art theory, architecture, or related areas.
- In-depth and proven knowledge of contemporary art and the functioning of the art ecosystem, especially Colombian and Latin American, and broad knowledge of contemporary cultural issues.
- A strong international network.
- Fluent Spanish and English.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills.

- Implement the Museum’s curatorial policy in direct relation to the institution’s central mission.
- Design, evaluate and supervise the implementation of the Museum’s exhibition program around the patrimonial collection, temporary exhibitions and special projects.
- In collaboration with the department of Education and Public Programs, develop academic, educational, pedagogical and cultural activities that complement and enrich the contents of the exhibitions.
- Participate in the design of the Museum’s cultural program lines, promoting the integration of activities in such a way that the mission areas complement each other.
- Participate, analyze, recommend and guide the institution as part of the executive committee.
- Direct and coordinate the administrative tasks of the Curatorial department.
Exhibition Production and Post-Production:
- Design and execution of the Museum’s exhibition and artistic program in coordination with the General Director.
- Carry out their own exhibition projects and oversee those carried out by the team, from initial concept to completion, development and evaluation.
- Direct the scientific, curatorial and museographic scripts of the exhibitions programmed inside and outside MAMM.
- Supervise the installation and disassembly of the exhibitions, ensuring their correct packing and return to their owners within the dates established in the loan contracts.
- Direct the security and conservation processes of the artworks on display.
Art Collection, Register and Conservation:
- Oversee the administration of MAMM’s art collection.
- Implement the acquisition plan for MAMM’s art collection.
- Direct preventive conservation tasks with a view to caring for MAMM’s patrimony and those pieces entrusted to it by other institutions and private collectors.
- To guarantee compliance with copyright legislation.
External Relations:
- Engage in local and international activities and meetings that align with the Museum’s interests and strategic direction.
- Spearhead the formation of partnerships with cultural entities at the national and international levels to facilitate the development of exhibition and artistic projects.
Leadership within MAMM Staff:
- Promote, facilitate and coordinate dialogue with the Museum’s mission areas to obtain and provide content and inputs for the formulation of proposals, projects and events, among others.
- Lead the Curatorial team, as well as artists, curators and other guests.
- Ensure timely and constant communication with the Museum’s cross-cutting and support areas for the implementation of strategies specific to other areas.
- Participate in the development of the Museum’s strategic and annual activity plans and in the Museum’s primary committee.
- Contribute as a member of the executive team to ensure consistency and balance among the programs and resources.
- Support the general director and other areas in tasks entrusted to them.
